Le Wine Chambre: a home away from home for Joburg’s wine-lovers

by Destinate News on 22.02.2018

Calling all Joburg wine-lovers!

In the heart of Illovo, a new wine bar is ready to welcome you with open arms and the cheeriest sound in the world: the pop of a bottle (or two).

Le Wine Chambre offers an elegant, yet comfortable atmosphere, where good conversation flows seamlessly over a selection of fine wines from all over South Africa and even a few from some other corners of the wine-making world.

While you can simply stop by for a casual glass (or two), their special tastings are a great way to learn more about a specific selection of wine.

Le Wine Chambre offer a first-class dining experience with a delectable array of tapas to enjoy with your choice of wine. Head chef, Harold Saidi, has worked his way up through various of Joburg’s top kitchens – including 8 at The Towers and Vicky Christina – and certainly has a knack for tantalising even the toughest taste buds.

The brainchild of Joburg local, Walter Melato, Le Wine Chambre is also something of a dream come true for him.

After spending over 25 years in the engineering and building environment, he finally decided to follow his passion and open a wine bar.

“I first fell in love with wine somewhere around 1998, when I was based in Richards Bay. The very first bottle I purchased was a Neethlingshof Cabernet Sauvignon 1995, which I still have in a wine cooler at home. My vision for a wine bar has always been to create a space in the heart of Joburg, where people who appreciate wine can find a really superb selection. Apart from this, as someone who likes to socialise, I also wanted it to be a place where friends can meet and enjoy each other’s company in comfort.”

It’s safe to say that Walter’s vision has come to light perfectly at Le Wine Chambre.

We’d love to have you experience it for yourself, so consider this a standing invitation! Over the next two months they will also be hosting a few exciting events – from celebrating the last days of summer to welcoming autumn with some hearty wines and smooth jazz.

In the meantime, they are open every day (except Mondays) from 11:30am till late.
