4 South African wine events we love

It only seems fitting that a country that produces such an array of beautiful wines knows how to celebrate them in style too. No matter which part of South Africa you find yourself in, you’re bound to find a wine festival or event to tickle your fancy.

Here are four of our favourites:

Elgin Cool Wine & Country Food Festival

Situated a mere 70 kilometres east of Cape Town and a short 45 min drive, the Elgin Valley is known far and wide for producing some of the most exquisite cool climate wines around.
At the end of the harvest season every year, the Elgin Cool Wine & Country Food Festival gives visitors the opportunity to enjoy these wines at source, as wineries across the valley throw open their doors and gates.

Each participating winery offers a unique programme, allowing patrons to tailor-make their experience according to their own personal preferences, whilst enjoying a welcome alternative to the hustle and bustle of city life.
The event normally takes place at the end of April. Follow Wines of Elgin on Facebook to make sure you stay up to date.

Joburg Wine Club events

If you live in Joburg, love wine, but haven’t attended one of our Joburg Wine Club events yet, you’re really missing out! Sorry to put it so bluntly, but it’s just a fact.

Here at Destinate, we’re extremely proud of this growing baby of ours. We started this club at the end of 2017 to break the boundaries of wine culture in South Africa and to delve into the magic of Joburg and her people.

We’ve done this by hosting parties in various locations across Johannesburg, roughly every six weeks. Since the beginning of 2018, there’s been everything from a summery garden party to a gritty evening of underground revelry.

The next and last event for the year is coming up on 6 December – we hope to see you there! Follow Joburg Wine Club on Instagram to find out more.

Franschhoek Cap Classique & Champagne Festival, The Magic of Bubbles

What better way to end off a fabulous 2018 than raising a glass of bubbly at the annual Franschhoek Cap Classique & Champagne Festival, ‘The Magic of Bubbles’.

This year, the event is taking place on 1 & 2 December at the iconic Huguenot Monument and, as the name suggests, will bring the best of South Africa’s MCCs and France’s Champagnes right to your fingertips.

If you’re planning on going, be sure to dress to the nines in Black and White (this year’s theme), as a superb prize awaits the best dressed couple.

Visit the Franschhoek MCC website for more details.
