Feel like having a bit of fun while testing your wine knowledge? Lourensford recently started offering a blind tasting challenge, where guests will be served four wines. If they can identify them all correctly, they get the tasting FREE. However, if you’re unsuccessful, you pay the normal tasting rate. Cost: R45 per person. Tasting room hours: 9am to 5pm from Monday to Sunday (tasting closes at 4:30pm, but wine tasting stays available till 5pm.
Flavour sensation, Plaisir de Merle, Franschhoek
The flavour sensation tasting at Plaisir de Merle is seasonal and you can look forward to wines paired with the likes of dried figs and pears, fruit cake, blue berries, or biltong. All tastings are offered in the tasting room, an old barn built in 1823, with breathtaking views of the mountain and vineyards. Cost: R95. Tasting room hours: 10am to 6pm daily between September and April 10am to 5pm daily between May and August.
