Iconic Cape Town

This tour takes guests on a journey through iconic Cape Town, including the Bo-Kaap and Table Mountain, where we will delve into indigenous narratives of our ancient past. A visit to Khayelitsha will take us back to the future, as we explore its rapidly-growing culinary and cultural offerings, which is making it one of the economic centres of the city.

We begin in the historic centre, and move our way out, following the city's history and expansion. In the Company's Garden a poet and storyteller of indigenous origin introduces us to Khoekhoegowab, one of the oldest languages of the region, and uses song and story to engage guests with the early Cape Town, pre-colonization. Then up Table Mountain, followed by visits to the District Six Museum, exploring forced removals; and finally for the historic centre, Bokaap, for Cape Malay snacks and slave era history in this fascinating neighbourhood.

For the final part of the day we head to Khayelitsha, one of the newest hubs in the city (Khayelitsha means 'new home'). Although Khayelitsha is called a township, and contains many elements of township, it is also a hotbed of ideas and youthful innovation. It has a growing culinary scene, active entrepreneurial networks and is one of Airbnb Experiences fastest growing zones. We will enjoy a delicious late lunch at Ciki's Eatery in Village 2, a home restaurant founded and run by Ciki and her sister, where Ciki will share her story. We follow lunch with a walk around the Khayelitsha to get a perspective on the fastest growing suburb in South Africa and an emerging central node in Cape Town.

Price: R2 520 per person (minimum of 8 guests)

Tour includes: Private guide and vehicle, mineral water, traditional isiXhosa local lunch, Cape Malay snacks, soft drinks at lunch, Table Mountain cableway tickets, specialist indigenous host in the city.
